An interactive Geographic Information System (GIS) allows you to organize and analyze data that can be referenced spatially or tied to a physical location.

Many types of data have a spatial aspect, including demographics, and marketing surveys. Thematic mapping software uses two basic types of data:

Data Types

Spatial data contains the coordinates and identifying information describing the map itself.

Attribute data contains information that can be linked to the spatial data, such as population and demographic information, that matches addresses or coordinates in the spatial data.
